The F-Pace will be available with two engine options. The so-called 20d is a 2-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder that spins to the tune of 180 horsepower and 318 pound-feet of torque. There's also the 35t, which is a 3-liter supercharged gasoline V-6 that makes 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque -- and which seems oddly named, its alphanumerics neither matching the displacement nor the aspiration. A top-spec S trim level bumps the V-6's power to 380 horsepower, thanks to a revised management software.
Either engine will be mated to a standard all-wheel drive system through an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox. Jaguar's AWD system is an on-demand setup that defaults to rear-wheel drive until slip is detected. Braking-based torque vectoring and Jaguar Adaptive Surface Response traction control system boost grip in a variety of performance and low-traction situations.
The F-Pace's body, chassis and suspension make extensive use of lightweight aluminum in their construction. The crossover borrows many of its styling cues from the XF and XE sedans.
In the cabin, the F-Pace's dashboard is dominated by a new suite of Jaguar InControl tech. The instrument cluster is a 12.3-inch display with virtual gauges or a full map display. When equipped with the optional InControl Touch Pro infotainment option, the main display is a 10.2-inch capacitive screen with 3D graphics powered by a quad-core processor and a high-speed 60GB solid-state drive.
Jag is aiming the F-Pace at the active lifestyle set, so the new model also debuts Jaguar's Activity Key. Think of it as a waterproof, shockproof version of the keyless entry transponder that is integrated into a rubber wristband. With this Active Key, drivers can lock their key in the car while cycling, surfing or kayaking.
Available driver aid tech includes the usual suspects -- adaptive cruise control with queue assist, autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring -- and a few interesting features such as semi-automatic parallel parking and a full-color laser head-up display.
The 2017 Jaguar F-Pace V-6 will launch in the US in the spring of 2016 with the diesel option joining the lineup later in the year. Pricing starts from $42,390 for V-6 models and $40,990 for four-cylinder diesel. A 3-liter V-6 First Edition model will be available in the UK for £65,275.
